A special Makeup Workshop was conducted on April 28, 2016, at K. R. Narayanan National Institute of Visual Science and Arts (KRNNIVSA) for the 2014 batch students of the Script Writing and Direction Department. The session was led by none other than Pattanam Rasheed, the National Award-winning makeup artist and a legendary figure in Indian cinema.
The workshop offered students an exclusive opportunity to interact with and learn from a master of the craft. Pattanam Rasheed shared his vast experience in character makeup, prosthetics, transformation techniques, and the creative process involved in designing looks that support storytelling in cinema.
Students were introduced to:
Basic and advanced makeup techniques
Character-driven makeup design
Period look transformations
Use of materials and tools in film makeup
Live demonstrations and interactive Q&A
The session was highly engaging, with students gaining insight into the crucial role makeup plays in visual storytelling. It also emphasized the importance of collaboration between the direction team and the makeup department in realizing cinematic vision.
This workshop was a valuable addition to the academic experience of the students, bridging the gap between theory and practical application in filmmaking.
