Post Graduate Diploma in Sound Recording & Sound Designing
Sound has always been an integral part of moving images right from 1927 onwards, when the characters in Al Jolson’s film The Jazz Singer, for the first time started talking to the audience. Thus was born the age of talkies. The journey since then has been one punctuated with remarkable developments aided by the revolutionary technological developments that have happened over the past century. We're now on the verge of celebrating the centenary of the first talking movie

The course is spread over five semesters, After getting acquainted with the fundamentals of all the other disciplines in the first semester, from the second semester onwards, one gets to focus on Audiography specialization. The topics that are mainly covered in the specialization module deal with location sound recording, sound design, sound editing, acoustics, music recording, live sound recording, and sound mixing in stereo and surround formats. The department has all the necessary infrastructure and facilities for imparting training in the domains mentioned above.
There will be theory sessions in the mornings followed by practical modules in the afternoons. The theory sessions are tailored in such a manner that a student gets to know how the process of sound recording started from the early days of analogue recording and evolved into the present digital age. Each student will get ample time to practice on a wide range of equipment, be it location sound recording, studio recording, sound design, etc. There will be both indoor and outdoor practical sessions. All the sessions take place under the able guidance of a team of faculty members and demonstrators having vast experience in various domains, whether it be location sound, sound mixing, acoustics, etc. The sessions are also supplemented by workshops under the guidance of external experts working in the film and television industry. At the end of each semester, every student gets to independently work on a project, which will be shot and recorded on the latest digital equipment. The final project at the end of the course is a diploma film which is predominantly a sync sound exercise. The final sound mix will be in the 5.1 surround format, which will later be conform with the final edited picture to make a DCP print for theatrical release. The department is equipped with ample facilities for both location recording as well as studio recording. Apart from regular theory and practical sessions, there are daily film screenings in the evenings. Watching films is very much an integral part of learning film and television.
