Sony Future Filmmaker Awards 2025: A Triumph for Kerala’s K R Narayanan National Institute

In a remarkable achievement for Kerala's K R Narayanan National Institute of Visual Science and Arts (KRNNIVSA), cinematography student Muhammad Ashfaque has been shortlisted for the prestigious Sony Future Filmmaker Awards 2025.  His film, Ura, directed by fellow student Sruthil, is among the 30 shortlisted films from over 11,750 submissions worldwide.  The awards ceremony and industry immersion program are taking place at Sony Pictures Studios in Culver City, California, from June 2 to 6, 2025.  

The Sony Future Filmmaker Awards, established by Creo in partnership with Sony, aim to spotlight exceptional short films from emerging filmmakers globally.  The 2025 edition features four core categories: Fiction, Non-Fiction, Animation, and Student.  The program offers shortlisted filmmakers exclusive workshops, screenings, and Q&A sessions with industry leaders, providing invaluable opportunities for career advancement.  

The esteemed jury for this year's awards includes acclaimed filmmaker and writer Minhal Baig, President of 3000 Pictures Elizabeth Gabler, Academy Award®-nominated filmmaker Jason Reitman, and award-winning director Justin Chadwick, who returns as jury chair for the third consecutive year.  

Muhammad Ashfaque's participation in this esteemed event underscores the growing recognition of Indian cinema on the global stage and highlights the exceptional talent emerging from KRNNIVSA.  As Ashfaque continues his journey at the Sony Future Filmmaker Awards, his success serves as an inspiration to aspiring filmmakers in Kerala and beyond.
