The Department of Acting at K R Narayanan National Institute of Visual Science and Arts conducted a Five-Day Expert Interaction Program for Semester III Acting students as part of the academic curriculum, focusing on film acting and screen performance.
The program was led by Prashant Murali, actor and an alumnus of the institute. An emerging presence in Malayalam cinema, he has appeared in several mainstream and independent films, including Aarkkariyam, Jan.E.Man, Kooman, Kasargold, and Ullozhukku. Notably, two films in which he played key roles — Aedan and Ullozhukku — have received national-level recognition.
Structured program comprised interactive lectures, demonstrations, discussions, and practical exercises on acting for the camera, character building, psychological realism, dialogue and subtext, working with directors and film crews, and contemporary audition and self-tape practices. Camera-based exercises and screen tests formed an integral part of the training.
The expert also shared professional experiences from feature films, short films, and advertisements, offering guidance on screen acting, actor–camera relationship, and collaboration with creative and technical teams, professional ethics, and career development.
The program effectively supplemented the syllabus with industry-oriented perspectives and practical engagement, contributing to students’ preparedness for advanced academic and screen-based work.
