The Acting Department at K R Narayanan National Institute of Visual Science and Arts (KRNNIVSA) successfully concluded a 24-day intensive Kalari Morning Physical Training Program, held from June 10 to July 14, 2025, as part of the departmental specialization for the 2024 Acting batch.
Led by renowned Kalari expert Shri. Ajith Kumar Gurukkal, the sessions were conducted, focusing on physical conditioning, body awareness, and discipline through the traditional martial art of Kalaripayattu. Key components of the training included meyyabhyaasam (body exercises), chuvadukal (steps), vadivukal (stances), adavukal (movement techniques), and verum kai (bare-hand combat practices), with an emphasis on posture, rhythm, and mental focus.
Student feedback reflected enhanced physical agility, movement clarity, and deeper appreciation for Kerala’s martial heritage. The program also underscored Kalari’s relevance as a performative art, aligning with the goals of actor training.
