The "Master in Residence" series at KRNNISVA continues today, March 10, 2026, shifting its focus to the ancient Sanskrit theatre tradition of Koodiyattam. Following yesterday's Kathakali session, today’s program offers a specialized look at the performance of Shoorpanankam.
Presented by the renowned artists of Kerala Kalamandalam, this session will provide a lecture and demonstration on the intricate acting techniques and storytelling of Koodiyattam, one of the oldest living theatrical traditions in the world.
As Koodiyattam utilizes a highly sophisticated language of gestures (mudras) and facial expressions, the artists have provided a synopsis of the Shoorpanankam episode.
Important Note: Please ensure you have read the provided PDF synopsis before arriving. Familiarizing yourself with the narrative of Shoorpanankam—the encounter between the demoness Shoorpanakha and the princes Rama and Lakshmana—will greatly enhance your understanding of the demonstration.
To ensure the performance begins on time and to allow for proper seating, all attendees are requested to follow the schedule below:
