The Department of Animation and Visual Effects  successfully organized a six-day Story Pitching Workshop for 2022 - batch  4th-semester 3D Animation students, held from April 28 to May 3, 2025. The workshop was led by renowned animation film designer Shaheen Mohamed Sheriff, known for his contributions to studios like Ghost Animation and his own Nalloru Studio, and his teaching experience at premier institutes including NID and SRFTI.

The primary goal of the workshop was to guide students in developing engaging short animation projects (approximately 30 seconds) by refining their storytelling and pitching skills. Each session focused on a core element of story development, culminating in a complete pre-production package.

Workshop Highlights – Day by Day

Day 1 (April 28): Students generated original story ideas through various methodologies and refined them through group discussions.

Day 2 (April 29): Focused on character and visual development, including early concept art.

Day 3 (April 30): Emphasized character design and planning for an indie animation production, stressing consistency and visual appeal.

Day 4 (May 1): Introduced storyboard planning and narrative pacing.

Day 5 (May 2): Students presented their final storyboards and pitched their projects, receiving feedback on concept clarity and storytelling techniques.

Day 6 (May 3): The morning session introduced students to the concept of a colour script, using colour scripts developed for some of Shaheen’s projects including his upcoming game “I Can Human” as a reference.

This workshop stands as a model for future initiatives aimed at bridging the gap between academic learning and industry practice in the field of animation storytelling.
