A rigorous 10-day Movement Workshop concluded on July 10th, 2025, at the K R Narayanan National Institute of Visual Science and Arts (KRNNIVSA). Organized by the Department of Acting for the 2024 Admission Batch, the sessions were facilitated by acclaimed movement trainer Mr. Denny Paul. The workshop focused on helping young actors develop body-mind awareness, endurance, physical imagination, and expressive control—all foundational skills for both stage and screen performance.
Rooted in Kalari, Capoeira, contact improvisation, and creative somatic practices, the workshop pushed students to break habitual patterns, discover their inner rhythm, and embrace the discipline of physical training.
The performance that followed marked the culmination of this intensive journey. The monsoon-laden evening of the campus witnessed a breath taking Movement art performance by the Acting students. The graceful, vigorous, aggressive movement under the light and shade atmosphere of the Acting Studio floor witnessed imaginative artistic movements based on themes like trapped and distraction. The on-screen actor should be free in movements both internal and external, with adaptability and endurance—creating realms of energy, body-mind coordination, and variety of movements. The students portrayed the skills learned from the workshop, creating a scintillating performance. Most of them, new to this art, realized the possibility of the body—breaking the barriers of limitations, bracing up to learn more about acting techniques by understanding the fluency of their body.
The performance embodied the essence of screen acting where intensity in stillness, emotional continuity, and expressive subtlety often define a character. Students demonstrated how movement can reflect thought, express emotional subtext, and hold audience attention without dialogue.
