Ms. Raka Dutta, a graduate of the Satyajit Ray Film & Television Institute (SRFTI) 2006, is
an independent filmmaker, a published poet, vocalist, painter, and analogue photo artist,
who has been teaching in film schools since 2015.
Her short film Chinese Whispers (2007) was a part of the official selection at the 60th
Cannes International Film Festival in the Cinefondacion section (La Cinef), Notably, she
has won grant from NHK, Japan (Nippon Hosho Kyokai) to make a commissioned
documentary film named 'Little Mermaids' in 2008. She has made several other short films
and documentary films since 2004. Her films have been critically acclaimed at various
national and international film festivals. The themes of her works revolve around body-
image/body-politics, erotica, gender, intersectional feminism, socio-political issues, visual
semiotics and anthropology.
Her poetry collection, Arrival of the Heady Vines and Other Poems, published in 2023,
stands as a testament to her artistic vision and thought.
