Hasainar Chengat

A filmmaker, writer, and scholar, Hasainar Chengat crafts a poetic and personal approach to cinema. An alumnus of the Film and Television Institute of India, Pune, he continues his creative work alongside doctoral research in Philosophy, Art, and Critical Thought at the European Graduate School, Switzerland. With roots in Journalism, English Literature, and Psychology, his practice spans documentaries, installations, and short films created across geographies from Kerala to East Africa.

Notable works include Tales from the Nile, a contemplative study of Afro-Jewish traditions, and Culture of the Sea, a multi-screen installation for Dubai’s Shindagha Museum. His films have been showcased internationally, including at ON.DXB (Dubai), the Nahal International Students Short Film Festival (Iran), and the Lago Film Festival (Italy), where he was featured in the New Indian Voices section. He has also taught at New York University Abu Dhabi and worked as a digital archivist preserving Kerala’s maritime heritage.
