Shri Saeed Akhtar Mirza, born on June 30, 1943, in Mumbai, is a renowned Indian filmmaker and screenwriter known for his impactful contributions to Hindi parallel cinema. An alumnus of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune, he has directed critically acclaimed films such as Arvind Desai Ki Ajeeb Dastaan (1978), Albert Pinto Ko Gussa Kyoon Aata Hai (1980), Mohan Joshi Hazir Ho! (1984), Salim Langde Pe Mat Ro (1989), and Naseem (1995), which earned him the National Film Award for Best Direction.
Beyond cinema, Mirza has made significant contributions to television with popular series like Nukkad (1986) and Intezaar (1988), and has authored books including Ammi: Letter to a Democratic Mother (2008) and The Monk, the Moor and Moses Ben Jalloun (2012).
In February 2023, he assumed the role of Chairman at the K.R. Narayanan Institute of Visual Science and Arts in Kerala, aiming to elevate the institute to a national center of excellence.
